Rehoming Your Pet
If you are rehoming your pet because he/she is displaying behavioural issues, why not consider getting a trainer / behaviourist in to do an assessment and to make suggestions on ways to resolve any issues? For a list of approved trainers / behaviourists in your area please contact [email protected]

You need to be aware of the dangers of rehoming your pet(s) privately. Your dogs could end up being used as bait in fighting rings; being smuggled over the border for this purpose; being used as security dogs living in shocking conditions; being used as breeding machines in puppy mills.
It is VERY IMPORTANT that you DO NOT advertise your pet on Gumtree / OLX or any other online sales platform.
Unfortunately these websites are trawled daily by individuals who do not have your family pet’s best interests at heart.
PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE ABOUT “FREE TO GOOD HOME” PETS
In the meantime, we would love to assist you with finding your family pet his/her new home.
- We are very strict with our homing policy. We rehome any pet as if it was our own.
- We insist on adoption forms, reference checks for any new owner (this includes a vet reference) and insist on home checks – we have a network of approved home checkers who have been rehoming animals for many years.
- If the animal is not yet sterilised we will arrange for the sterilisation BEFORE the dog is placed in his / her new home.
- We also arrange post-adoption home checks. We do not charge for this at all – we do this for the love of animals and for wanting only the best for every animal needing a home.
- If anyone contacts you directly to adopt your pet, please refer them to us so that we can do all of the above on your behalf.

We understand that rehoming your family pet is not a decision you have taken lightly and will endeavour to assist you every step of the way in finding him/her a safe and loving new home.
Before you continue please be sure that you have read and understood the following:
- Barking Mad SA is not a physical shelter and we encourage you to make provision in the event of your pet not being rehomed before your provided deadline.
- All pets rehomed through our network must be sterilised, microchipped, vaccinated, and dewormed to date before going to their new homes. The cost is the current owners responsibility. Should you be unable to carry the cost of a private veterinarian, Barking Mad will assist in finding you a suitable welfare rate.
- If the pet you are rehoming was previously adopted from another organisation, you are contractually bound to inform the organisation that you are rehoming and that Barking Mad will be assisting you (this is imperative for organisations to keep their own records up to date).
- The pet you are rehoming is your own or you have written consent from the owner to rehome on their behalf.
- If you are rehoming as a family, you have discussed the reality of rehoming with your children / spouse / partner and have reached a unanimous decision to rehome.
- You agree to be as transparent as possible with regards to the animal being rehomed and your reason for rehoming. Please list any and all positive and negative traits to enable us to find the best suitable home for your pet.
- You agree to let us know if you find an alternative home on your own and allow Barking Mad to carry out our adoption process to ensure the safety and wellbeing of your pet in their new home.
