Every day, families across South Africa are forced to make a heartbreaking choice: give up their beloved dogs—or lose the roof over their heads.
Shelters are overflowing. Hundreds of healthy, loving dogs and cats are being euthanised every single day because housing complexes and estates continue to enforce outdated, unfair “no pets” or “small dogs only” rules.
The Result?
- Shelters are bursting at the seams.
- Good, loyal dogs are being surrendered in heartbreaking numbers.
- Many are never adopted.
- Many are killed.
Not Without My Dog is a new BarkingMad initiative fighting for fair, compassionate housing rules.
We are calling on housing estates, property developers, and homeowner associations to:
- End blanket “no pets” or “small dogs only” policies
- Adopt case-by-case pet approvals
- Keep families together
